The Art of Slow Living: 3 Simple Ways to Embrace a Calmer Life

When Miguel and I were planning our escape to the mountains, one of our main goals was to achieve a slower pace of life and spend more time together as a family. Living in a capital city was exhilarating, but it was also exhausting! We worked lots and we partied lots too, but the amount of time we had together, when we weren’t working or partying, was very little. With the news that we were expecting our first child, we knew something had to give, and in our case, we decided that was everything! We left the city and moved to the mountains and have spent the last five years enjoying a much slower rhythm.

The Art of Slow Living: 3 Simple Ways to Embrace a Calmer Life

In today’s fast-paced world, slowing down can feel like a luxury—but it’s actually a necessity. At Angel Caves Farmstay, we’ve discovered the beauty of a simpler, slower life in the mountains, where each moment is savored rather than rushed. If you’re craving more peace in your daily routine, here are three simple ways to embrace slow living, no matter where you are.

1. Start Your Day Intentionally

Instead of reaching for your phone the moment you wake up, take a few minutes to breathe, stretch, and ease into the morning. Enjoy a cup of tea while watching the sunrise, listen to nature outside your window, or write a few thoughts in a journal. By creating a mindful morning ritual, you set a calmer tone for the entire day.

2. Prioritize Presence Over Productivity

Modern life glorifies busyness, but real joy comes from being present in each moment. Whether it’s sharing a meal with loved ones, taking a mindful walk, or simply pausing to appreciate your surroundings, focus on the experience rather than the outcome. At our farmstay, we love watching the clouds shift over the mountains or feeling the warmth of a crackling fire—simple moments that make life richer.

3. Create Digital-Free Moments

Technology keeps us connected, but it also keeps our minds constantly stimulated. Try setting aside tech-free time each day—whether it’s an hour before bed, a peaceful afternoon without screens, or an entire weekend getaway in nature. Unplugging helps you reconnect with yourself and those around you, making space for real rest and reflection.
